Where is the city of Wildsteig in Germany

Wildsteig is a municipality in Germany, located in the district of Weilheim-Schongau, in the state of Bavaria.


Wildsteig is 92 km from Munich (approx. 1h 25min journey). I haven’t taken the train to the city yet, but you can search for an option on the Deutsch Bahn. Taking the capital of the country as a reference, it is 687 km from Berlin and even though it is far away, it is possible to go there by car (approx. 7h), whereas in relation to other cities, it is 243 km from Stuttgart (approx. 2h 45min) and 441 Km from Frankfurt (approx. 4h30min).

As you can see, we are getting closer to the city of Munich, which becomes the best option in terms of origin and stay for your visit.

How to go to Wildsteig in Germany

The best way to travel in Germany is very much up to you. We alternated a lot between using the country’s excellent rail network and also taking advantage of the no less excellent German roads and highways (who hasn’t heard of the Autobahns with no speed limit, right?).

If you want to go by train from Munich, the journey takes approximately 1 hour 25 minutes.

Things to do in Wildsteig in Germany

Called “Wilde Steige” (in English “Wild Climb”) in the Middle Ages, the region was first mentioned as Wildsteig in 1110. Initially it belonged to the commercial center of the Rottenbuch monastery between 1073 and 1803, until in 1818 it became independent.

Situated (850 to 1,600 m above sea level) in the heart of Pfaffenwinkel, between the rivers Lech and Loisach, and surrounded by mountains, with beautiful views of the Alps, the region offers many options for hiking, biking or just rest and enjoy the view.

Being its main attractions the hiking trails, such as the “König-Ludwig-Weg”, “Jakobsweg”, “Prälatenweg” and “Heilige Landschaft Pfaffenwinkel”, or cycling, “Prälatenroute”, “Bodensee-Königsee-Radweg” , “Ammer-Amper-Radweg” and the “Erlebnisrunde Pfaffenwinkel”.
