Things to do in Wertheim in Germany
Wertheim was founded between the 7th and 8th centuries. Its name was given when the family of the Earls of Wertheim built a castle on the left bank of the River Main.
Founded in 1406, the cemetery of the former Jewish community is one of the oldest in Germany. For many years Wertheim was home to Peden Barracks, a US Army installation. The US Army left Peden Barracks in the early 1990s as part of the post-Cold War reorganization of the US military in Germany.
Top tourist attractions of Wertheim in Germany
The city of Wertheim, like many of the cities on the Romantic Road, has as its main tourist attraction the city itself and its historic buildings.
The Burg Wertheim, Wertheim Castle, is the city’s landmark.
Wertheim has a medieval town center with half-timbered houses and small streets. The Gothic Collegiate Church was built in 1383 (today it is a Protestant parish church). Two clocks can be seen in the clock tower, one with just the hour hand for the castle residents. The Kilianskapelle, a Gothic chapel, was built after 1469. The Engelsbrunnen (“well of angels”) from 1574 was built from the red sandstone typical of this area and derives its name of two little angels holding the coat of arms of Wertheim.
Other sights include the Kittsteintor with flood marks from 1595 onwards and the Blaues Haus (“blue house”).
Located not far from Wertheim, in the Tauber valley, is Bronnbach Abbey, Kloster Bronnbach, founded in 1150. The basilica of the late Romanesque and early from the Gothic was consecrated in 1222.

Guten Morgen,
