Feuchtwangen is a city in Germany, located in the Ansbach district, in the state of Bavaria.

Taking reference to the capital of the country, it is 507 km from Berlin and even though it is far away, it is possible to go by car (approx. 5h 45 min), in relation to other cities, it is 136 km from Stuttgart (approx. 1h 45min) and 229 Km from Munich (approx. 2h 30min).

How to go to Feuchtwangen in Germany

The best way to travel in Germany is very much up to you. We alternated a lot between using the country’s excellent railway network and also taking advantage of the no less excellent German roads and highways (who has never heard of the Autobahns with no speed limit, right?).

If you want to go by train from Munich, the journey takes approximately 3 hours.

What to do in Feuchtwangen in Germany

Things to do in Feuchtwangen in Germany

The origins of Feuchtwangen can be traced back to a Benedictine monastery mentioned in the 8th century as being “quite prosperous”. And it was in 1241 that it became a free imperial city.

Around 1400, the wall with its 14 towers and 3 gates was built, but many of its parts were demolished.

The city has seen conflicts such as the German Peasants’ War, the Protestant Reformation, the Thirty Years’ War and both World Wars, but much of its buildings remain. Even being a center for receiving post-war refugees.

And for its historical and regional importance, Feuchtwangen is now part of Germany’s Romantic Road.

Kreuzgangspiele Feuchtwangen (Summer Party in Feuchtwangen Cloister)

The cloister plays are theater festivals that have been held every summer since 1949 in the monastery garden in front of the arcades of the Romanesque cloister of the former Benedictine monastery in the town of Feuchtwangen.

The special feature of this open-air theater is its chamber-play character. The theater space is inserted in an enclosed area formed by the former cloister and the imposing façade of the former Stiftskirche.

You can check the schedule and updated information on the official website .
