Accommodation in Amsterdam, capital of the Netherlands

The hostel we booked was from the Stayokay chain, which is a very large chain in the Netherlands and offers good, simple rooms, without much frills, plus breakfast for any backpacker or family to defect! In Amsterdam there are three Stayokay: Hostel Amsterdam Vondelpark, Hostel Amsterdam Stadsdoelen and Hostel Amsterdam Zeeburg. We chose Vondelpark as it was the closest to the center.

For up-to-date rates and reservation availability, please visit Amsterdam Vondelpark on Booking.com.

Strolling in Amsterdam in the Netherlands

As everything was more or less close, we didn’t use the tram or metro, it was on our feet, to get to know the city and see its beautiful canals. We stayed in the city for only two days, which I would like to make it 4. The funny thing is that in Amsterdam I did different things than my husband.

It looked something like this:

  • While my future little one and I rested at the hostel, because life with a tummy is not easy; Husband + Aunt Leca went for a walk in Amsterdam nightlife and discover its famous cafes.
  • While I was walking aimlessly in the center of Amsterdam, seeing the central station and its thousands of bicycles, seeing the Paleis op de Dam, which was completely under renovation, I sold a mini Michael show Jackson; Husbandviski + aunt Leca visited the museum of sex.

Red Light District

While the viski husband + aunt Leca filled up with knowledge at the marijuana museum I had to run away with swans, uncles offering me strip tease shows and old ladies wearing only black leather sex pads… I found the Red Light District by chance…since I’m a bit off-putting, I was startled to see the little lady who could easily be my grandmother.

Museum House Anne Frank

But we also did a program, oops better another word, because a program in Amsterdam can be confusing… Starting over: But we visited places together like the Anne Frank house, the famous story of the Jewish teenager who at the age of 13 won a diary from the his father shortly before the Nazis invaded the Netherlands. When they received a subpoena from the Nazis, Anne’s father decided it would be better for them to live in hiding. In a super elaborate plan, they simulated that they had fled the country and started living in a house attached to their company. In addition to them, a family also lived there and they stayed there for almost two years. Due to an anonymous tip, the family was sent to concentration camps. Unfortunately, everyone but the father died in the fields. Back in Amsterdam, the father discovered his daughter’s diary and decided to publish it, making it a best seller.

The visit to the house is in the walk tour by yourself style and to visit it it’s nice to arrive very early. We arrived around 9 o’clock and didn’t get in a queue. On the way out, the queue turned around the block. To save time and patience, it is better to buy the ticket on the Official Website or a tour that joins a walking tour, history and the museum as Jewish Culture Quarter and Anna Frank Tour.

As well as the visit to Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp in Germany visiting the Anne Frank house is not easy, but it serves as an ear pull… for me it was.

Amsterdam Canal Boat Trip

After saying goodbye to aunt Leca who returned to the queen’s land, we went for a boat trip on the canals of Amsterdam. We took the night tour in a very romantic atmosphere. 😉 The coolest thing was seeing the boat squeezing into the canals and of course seeing the red windows of the Red Light District. Can you believe that the girls give an invoice for the service provided!? Now all that’s left is to want the tax free return home.

There are several types of canal tours, such as a Luxury Canal Cruise with Onboard Bar or a Evening Canal Cruise.

Museums in Amsterdam

We went to the Van Gogh museum and it was amazing. Along with Degas and Monet, Van Gogh is one of my favorite painters and being able to see his paintings, which I’ve leafed through so much in books, live was priceless.

Amsterdam has several museums such as the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art and Moco Museum Amsterdam, among others.

Heineken Experience

To close our trip, we visited the Heineken Experience. The tour is really cool, with a modern feel, a very different energy than Guinness Storehouse we went to in Dublin. The manufacturing process is also shown, from the raw material to the cold beer at the table, but the really cool thing is its interactive attractions, such as a cockpit that shows several commercials, a place where you can do karaoke and make a funny video , make faces and mouths for virtual photos and so on.

The visit ends at the Heineken bar, where each person can taste two beers. My happy husband had 3 and I had water. Can you believe that he still got mad at me for not ordering him a fourth beer… Can you do that, Arnaldo? 😀

For the visit to Heineken we also bought the internet tickets.

After the visit, we rushed back to the Hostel and from there to the airport, as a long 14 hour flight was waiting for us.
