Tropical Islands Resort is a water park 50 kilometers from the southern border of Berlin, Germany. Considered the largest indoor water park in the world, it was built in a former East German airship hangar.
As we weren’t going to travel to the beach this summer, we looked for an option that would be interesting, both to visit and to enjoy the swimming pool and, perhaps, the German heat.
In our research, we found some water parks and chose Tropical Islands because it was close to our itinerary to visit Berlin and also because of the option of staying in a tent. And, of course, its attractions, including its sauna complex and a tropical rainforest garden.
And, look, we really enjoyed the experience.

How to get to Tropical Islands Resort
The Tropical Islands water park is really close to Berlin, as I wrote at the beginning of the text, only 50 km. It is more specifically in the city of Krausnick, in the state of Brandenburg.
If you are in the center of Berlin, Germany, we can say that it is a little further away, around 70 km from Berlin and it is possible to go by car (approx. 1h30min) or by train + bus (1h55min). With reference to other cities, Tropical Islands Resort is 132 km from Dresden, 148 km from Leipzig, 587 km from Frankfurt and 582 km from Munich.
Worth a visit if you are already in the east of the country or with a longer travel itinerary in Germany.

How to stay at Tropical Islands Resort
We stayed inside Tropical Islands Resort, in the tent area and it was a cool experience. As we were with our daughter and she had been asking for a while to camp, we chose the easiest way.
We chose the cheapest option and even so the cabin is relatively large, the mattresses comfortable and clean. It is worth saying that there is not much comfort, in fact, you are simulating the experience of a camp, right? But it’s pretty ok.
The main weakness is that they don’t give you a towel, you have to bring your own. But it has clean bedding, at least.
Ah! Another negative point, the noise. As the cleaning crew uses night hours to clean the park, you’ll hear their sound at work; In addition to the system and air conditioning which is quite strong. However, after a whole day of swimming and playing, it’s pretty easy to sleep anyway.
We made the reservation with breakfast, which was quite plentiful, with several options. We liked it a lot too.
The Resort offers other accommodation options, whether in larger tents, bungalows and hotel rooms. Choose what you like the most. Ah! There is also the option of going by Motorhome, as the complex offers a parking lot for camping in this type of vehicle.
But if you don’t want to stay inside Tropical Islands, there are other options in the city of Krausnick, it’s worth searching on Booking.com.
Tropical Islands Resort Attractions
The water park has two large areas: an indoor one, which is the most famous, inside the old zeppelin hangar and considered the largest in the world; and an outdoor one, to be enjoyed when the weather is warmer and more inviting.
Unfortunately when we went it was quite cold and we ended up going outside very little. Walking around just to get to know. Not to say that we didn’t do anything, we once went to The Whitewater River, which is a water channel that you float 250 meters on, with some small drops.
One attraction that I wanted to go to, but that wasn’t working was Pororoca, which is those toys that simulate waves and that you can surf. Anyway, the outdoor area is quite large, with volleyball courts, places to sunbathe and take a walk. Again, a shame it was cold.
Returning to the hangar, to the covered area, Tropical Islands offers several attractions, such as:
- Mini golf
- There are 18 holes with different challenges.
- Balloon ride
- You hop on a balloon and are carried by an employee through the pool and rainforest. Strange…
- Jungle Splash
- A set of slides, water pistols, ladders, fountains and buckets that amuse children and adults alike. Olivia really liked it!
- Water slide tower
- A giant tower 27 meters high with 4 slides. Yes, it’s quite big. And yes, there is a fear of going up, I was very scared about security, but I didn’t stop going up and down people.
- Tropical sea
- A giant pool, divided between two parts, a bigger one, which you can even swim in. And a part for children, but shallow, where the slides are.
- Lagoon Grotto and waterfall
- Another pool with more heated water, with two areas. One of them with a waterfall. We enjoyed it a lot.
- Tropical forest
- A large garden that simulates a rainforest. It’s quite beautiful and really with a lot of stuff. Olivia loved the pond with flamingos and the butterfly garden.
- Tropino Club
- A big playground for children with lots of toys, but some are paid separately.
- Sauna Complex
- Several dry and wet saunas, as well as hydro massages.
The Resort also has restaurants, bars, shops, Spa and lots of tropical decor scattered throughout its complex. In addition, of course, to your hosting offers, as mentioned above.
In other words, for lack of options, you will not be left without doing anything.
Our experience at Tropical Islands Resort in Germany
Looking at other blogs, Instagram and YouTube videos, we found some reports of people who didn’t enjoy the tour. And already in advance, we liked it a lot.
I really believe that the main reason is that we traveled with a child, right? Olivia didn’t stop for a minute, she loved playing on the slides and walking in the forest. That makes a lot of difference, maybe if we were just as a couple, the experience wouldn’t have been so good.
Same thing with tent accommodation. Olivia had been asking for this for a long time, we had even camped on the living room floor, but even so the “charging” was intense.
Of course there were downsides: Not having a towel available, especially for guests, was a rather unpleasant surprise; It’s not a very cheap tour, that is to say; And the adult slides are weird, it’s a metal structure that has an uninviting face.
Another complaint, but then the problem is not so much with the park, but with the German who loves to reserve a chair and place as quickly as possible, even though he is not in the place at that time: it was the difficulty of finding a place on the beach or by the pool. Everything always packed!
And speaking of attraction for adults, the sauna complex is very good, big, with several options. And it’s worth mentioning that it’s a German sauna, so everyone is naked.
Another thing we really enjoyed was spending the night at the water park. Enjoy the small “beach” at night, walk around its attractions (there’s even a small cinema, where a French film was being dubbed in German _ I don’t remember the name… lol). It was a very interesting experience.
In short, it was a very good tour, which helped to forget a little the cold that was this summer.
