The Karlsruher Christkindlesmarkt , the Christmas market in Karlsruhe, Germany, will take place from November 25 to December 23, 2024.
Karlsruhe’s Christmas market, called Christkindlesmarkt, has a big city feel. It stretches from the Friedrichplatz area, with its tall trees and the facade of the Natural History Museum, to the square behind St. Stephen’s Church and the ice skating area on Schlossplatz.

Visiting the Karlsruhe Christmas Market
In Friedrichplatz square , the main area considered to be the festival grounds, there are craft stalls, very typical of the region, where you can find artifacts made of glass, wood, leather, wool, spices and so on.
This square is also where the action (or what is considered the action at a Christmas Market) for adults takes place, with several food and drink stalls surrounding the Pyramid. Yes, we spell Pyramid with a “y”. This “stall” is considered the center of the entire Christmas market, and you can find it in practically every market.
Karlsruhe Christmas Market Schedule 2024
There are several smaller Christmas markets scattered throughout the city, but the main Christmas market in Karlsruhe is the Christkindlesmarkt . In addition to traditional food and craft stalls, Karlsruhe’s Christmas festival also focuses on Christmas decorations in the city center, especially in and around Kaiserstraße. It is open daily from 25 November 2024 to 23 December 2024, from 11 am to 9 pm, at Marktplatz und Friedrichsplatz.
Another market we really like is Kinderland St. Stephan , which has a little train for children to ride and also an enchanting fairytale world with storytellers, talking trees and a children’s ice rink that comes to life for the little guests. It is open daily from November 25, 2024 to December 23, 2024, from 11 am to 9 pm, on the square of St. Stephan’s Church ( Kirchplatz St. Stephan ).
Santa Claus arrives at the Karlsruhe Christmas Market
On this side of the Christmas market, every day at 5 and 7 pm, Santa Claus crosses the square in his sleigh, bringing joy to the little ones. It’s all very cute and well done, even the grown-ups stop drinking their Glühwein to watch him pass by.
Interesting facts about the Karlsruhe Christmas Market
One interesting fact is that at the Karlsruhe fair there is a temporary store of the famous Christmas store Käthe Wohlfahrt , whose headquarters are in the city of Rothenburg ob der Tauber . By the way, if you have a tight schedule and can’t go to Rothenburg, but really want to buy something from the store, just check the website.
The part behind the Church of St Stephan is calmer, where children can have fun with the installations containing various passages from children’s stories, a little train and a small carousel.
To escape the cold in this area, small cabins are available for people, where you can sit and enjoy your Halbmeter Bratwurst und Glühwein more calmly ! 😀
Leaving the Friedrichplatz area and heading towards the Schloss Karlsruhe, you arrive at the long-awaited ice skating rink, which is a huge hit with kids and adults who miss skiing.
Since I don’t have the skills to do so, I don’t even try… But it’s beautiful to see people gliding, especially with the castle as a backdrop. For those who are in the area, the skating rink will be open until 01/31/2016.
