Tauberbischofsheim is a hidden gem among German travel destinations. Some relics of the medieval city wall, particularly the tower called Türmersturm, can be seen.
For many years, the city was home to the Die Kreuzigung Christi (1523-1524) of the Tauberbischofsheim altarpiece, a monumental piece of German Renaissance art by Matthias Grunewald, also called the Master Mathis, now held at the Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe. The painting depicts the crucifixion of Jesus with the Virgin and Saint John at his feet and the city still has a replica that can be seen in its former place.

Distelhäuser brewery in Tauberbischofsheim in Germany
Brewery Distelhäuser is a brewery founded in 1811 as Brewery Womann and acquired in 1876 by Ernst Bauer.
Distelhäuser beer is brewed in accordance with the German purity law (Reinheitsgebot) of 1516, and the brewery is a founding member of the Die Freien Brauer (Independent Brewers) initiative, an association of medium-sized private breweries in Germany and Austria.
On the brewery grounds in Distelhausen are the Distelhäuser Brauhaus restaurant, the Farmer’s Snack butcher shop (Bauers Brotzeit) and the convention center Former bottling hall (Alte Füllerei). The Distelhäuser brewery is a sponsor of Slow Food Germany. Between 2004 and 2012, the Distelhäuser gourmet market (Distelhäuser Genießermarkt) took place on the brewery’s premises in cooperation with Slow Food.
